Last Saturday, IPWS  hosted a morning workshop on Strategic Career Moves and Considerations in a Volatile Job Market, led by Miriam Wickertsheim, General Manager of DirectHR.

During the session, Miriam shared practical perspectives on how professionals can make thoughtful career decisions at different stages of their journey. She spoke about the importance of building strong functional or industry depth in the early years, strategically broadening experience at mid-career, and expanding leadership scope at senior levels.

The discussion also explored entrepreneurship as a potential career path. Miriam highlighted the realities and risks involved in starting a business and offered practical tips to help participants better understand the challenges, assess their readiness, and make informed decisions about stepping into entrepreneurial roles.

Participants reflected on how to position themselves effectively in the China job market and discussed the value of networking, visibility, and continuous learning in shaping long-term career growth. The session was highly interactive. Members shared personal experiences, asked honest questions, and encouraged one another while thinking about future career directions.

The session reflected the spirit of IPWS by creating a supportive environment where we could exchange perspectives and learn together as a community.
