Recognizes founders and leaders of small and medium-sized businesses who have shown innovation, resilience, and strong leadership. Honorees create sustainable businesses while empowering women and building inclusive workplaces.

 

Eligibility Requirements:

•Must be currently residing and working in China.

•Previously worked in China and co/founded a business that still operates here

•Minimum 5 years of professional experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role (founder, co-founder, or executive).

 

Company Requirements:

•Business running in China for 3+ years

•Proven financial and sustainable viability (e.g. revenue, job creation…)

 

Nomination Requirements:

◾Founder’s story, drive, and impact on industry/community.

◾Demonstrates Leadership Competencies

•Thought Leadership: Innovation, problem-solving, strategic growth

•People Leadership: Team building and inclusive leadership.

•Personal Leadership: Integrity, adaptability, growth mindset.

 

◾Commitment to Women’s Advancement

•Efforts to elevate AND EMPOWER women in the workplace (e.g., mentorship, inclusive policies and resources to empower women).

◾Creation of a supportive environment (e.g., lactation rooms, flexible work).

◾Uses business tools to support diversity and women

 

Questions to keep in mind when nominating someone for SME Business Leader of the Year:

•How has the nominee empowered women in their workplace or industry?

•What specific actions demonstrate their mentorship or advocacy for women’s growth?

•How do they promote diversity, equity, and inclusion?
