WLA Criteria Guidelines


Nomination Process – How to Nominate for WLA 2017

  • You can nominate for the Women Leadership Awards 2017 by:
  • IPWS recommends familiarizing yourself with the WLA Criteria Guidelines and reading through the nomination category requirements. This will help avoid the need to later supplement applications.
  • Nomination is free of charge and will remain open until Wednesday May 3rd, 2017 at 8PM
  • Nomination Forms received after the nomination period will not be considered
  • Please select only one category per nomination
  • Complete the form in English. The organizer has the right to reject uncompleted forms.
  • Following the review of all nominations, the Jury will select two finalists for each WLA category.
  • The finalists and all nominees will be notified by mid May (yet to be determined)
  • On a date in May (yet to be determined) the finalists will be required to represent themselves in front of the Jury for a 30-minute in-person session
  • The Jury will select the recipient of each award category based on the nominees’ presentations, and their recognized accomplishments submitted beforehand through the nomination process.
  • The winners will be announced and recognized at the Women Leadership Awards ceremony to be featured at the IPWS Leadership Summit on June 2nd.

IPWS Women Leadership Awards 2017 have detailed Criteria Guidelines for all Leadership Categories, making the selection process clear and accountable for the WLA Jury. Please email wla@ipwsconnect.com for any questions on the Criteria Guidelines.

There are six categories for the 2017 Women Leadership Awards:

  • Business Leader of the Year
  • Innovator of the Year
  • Young Business Leader of the Year
  • Social Contributor of the Year
  • Entrepreneur of the Year
  • HeforShe Man of the Year

All Candidates must submit:

  • Short Biography
  • Photograph of Candidate
  • Nomination Material and Required Documents to be submitted in English

Business Leader of the Year

Specific Nomination Requirements:

  • At least 15 years of Professional Experience
  • Executive level position (VP and above) or industry equivalent
  • Recognized by others as an exceptional leader and mentor
  • A story-based essay of 500-1000 words (min/max), that elaborates on:
    • The nominee’s documented contribution to the company, job function and/or industry
    • How the nominee demonstrates the following leadership competencies:
      • Thought Leadership: critical thinking, identifying new ways to help grow the business
      • Results Leadership: ensuring that goals turn into action and pay off for the organization
      • People Leadership: growing talent, creating an engaging workplace, effectively managing cross-cultural credibility and trust
      • Personal Leadership: investing in self-development, self-awareness and flexibility, building business communication and collaboration, influencing others, effectively manage across-cultural credibility and trust, personal integrity

Young Business Leader of the Year

Specific Nomination Requirements:

  • At least 5 years of Professional Experience, and is age 35 or under
  • Management Position (managing people, products, services, or projects)
  • Recognized by others as an exceptional young leader
  • A story-based essay of 500-1000 words (min/max), that elaborates on:
    • The nominee’s documented contribution to the company, job and/or industry
    • How the nominee demonstrates the following leadership competencies:
      • Thought Leadership: critical thinking, identifying new ways to help grow the business
      • Results Leadership: ensuring that goals turn into action and pay off for the organization
      • People Leadership: growing talent, creating an engaging workplace, mastering communication and collaboration, influencing others, effectively managing cross-cultural credibility and trust
      • Personal Leadership: investing in self-development, self-awareness and flexibility, building business communication and collaboration, influencing others, effectively manage across-cultural credibility and trust, personal integrity

Entrepreneur of the Year

Specific Nomination Requirements:

  • A Founder or Co-Founder of a company, and is currently engaged in an active role with the company
  • Company should have sustainable growth, provide sole income, and do some business in China
  • Submit company information to demonstrate the above:
    • Name of the Company
    • Financial Data in 2017: Revenues and Growth Rate
    • Number of Employees
    • Have you launched new services or products in 2017?
    • Branch offices and their regions
    • Total number of clients, and newly added client number in 2017
    • Do you have media exposure?
  • A story-based essay of 500-1000 words (min/max), that elaborates on:
    • How the company has experienced sustainable growth, provides sole income, and does some business in China
    • How the nominee has likely demonstrated the ability to overcome adversity
    • How the nominee implements a unique company culture and a great place to work
    • How the nominee demonstrates the following leadership competencies:
      • Thought Leadership: critical thinking, identifying new ways to help grow the business
      • Results Leadership: ensuring that goals turn into action and pay off for the organization
      • People Leadership: growing talent, creating an engaging workplace, mastering communication and collaboration, influencing others, effectivey managing cross-cultural credibility and trust
      • Personal Leadership: investing in self-development, self-awareness and flexibility, building communication and collaboration, influencing others, effectively manage across-cultural credibility and trust, personal integrity

Innovator of the Year

Specific Nomination Requirements:

  • At least 10 years of Professional Experience in Corporate, Start Up or Non-Profit
  • A story-based essay of 500-1000 words (min/max), that elaborates on:
    • The nominee’s documented contribution to the company, job and/or industry
      • Applies innovative thinking in response to changes and challenges as a leader
      • Displays strategic vision, and inspires others through her actions
      • Having actively shaped the nature and success of creative efforts within her profession, company or cause
    • Demonstrates the following leadership competencies:
      • Thought Leadership: critical thinking, identifying new ways to help grow the business
      • Results Leadership: ensuring that goals turn into action and pay off for the organization
      • People Leadership: growing talent, creating an engaging workplace, mastering communication and collaboration, influencing others, effectively managing cross cultural credibility and trust
      • Personal Leadership: investing in self-development, self-awareness and flexibility, building cause through Innovation Leadership communication and collaboration, influencing others, effectively manage across-cultural credibility and trust, personal integrity

Social Contributor of the Year

Specific Nomination Requirements:

  • Is actively working in the field (non-profit or business role) for which she is nominated
  • A story-based essay of 500-1000 words (min/max), that elaborates on how the nominee:
    • Has achieved a measurable and sustained contribution to the community or a social cause in China, and displays an disruptive approach in making a positive social impact
    • Possesses broad vision and takes risks to achieve meaningful results
    • Demonstrates the following leadership competencies:
      • Thought Leadership: critical thinking, identifying new ways to help grow the business
      • Results Leadership: ensuring that goals turn into action and pay off for the organization
      • People Leadership: growing talent, creating an engaging workplace, mastering communication and collaboration, influencing others, effectively managing cross-cultural credibility and trust
      • Personal Leadership: investing in self-development, self-awareness and flexibility, building communication and collaboration, influencing others, effectively manage across-cultural credibility and trust, personal integrity

HeforShe Man of the Year

Specific Nomination Requirements:

  • A male leader that is a demonstrated ‘gender champion’
  • A story-based essay of 500-1000 words (min/max), that elaborates on how the nominee:
    • Has achieved a measurable and sustained contribution to the advancement of women in their organisation, industry or community
    • Displayed a sets of behaviours in overcoming the gender challenges faced and key strategies for overcoming them.
    • Demonstrates the following leadership competencies:
      • Thought Leadership: critical thinking,
      • Results Leadership: ensuring that goals turn into action and pay off for the organization
        People Leadership: mastering communication and collaboration, influencing others
      • Personal Leadership: investing in self-development, self-awareness and flexibility, building communication and collaboration, influencing others, personal integrity
